Amid a global pandemic where women were disproportionally affected by the dual economic and health crises, global multilateral organizations inaugurated the first International Pay Equity Day on September 18, 2020. This day recognizes longstanding efforts to achieve “equal pay for work of equal value”, or as it’s more commonly known, “Pay Equity,” by organizations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Women (UN Women) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In this conversation, Commissioner Kadie Ward speaks with Emanuela Pozzan, a Senior Specialist on Gender Equality with the ILO. She is part of the “Equal Pay International Coalition” Secretariat (EPIC). EPIC is a coalition of the ILO, UN Women, and the OECD. She also speaks with Monika Queisser, Senior Counsellor to the Director of Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Directorate and the Head of Social Policy Division at OECD. The Pay Equity Commission of Ontario has enjoyed long-term collaboration with the EPIC and the ILO.
